i am cautiously optimistic

are you nervous?  i know that i am.

according to hollywood, this is "national stay-at-home week".  i must admit that i get caught up in all the hype about fall tv.  i have my favorites (lost, heroes, smallville, pushing daisies, etc.), and after a long and tiring summer i am ready to see some new episodes.  finally, the wait is over.  not only do my faithful, fictional friends return this month, but they will be joined by many more hopefuls.  here lies the problem.

there is always one "new" show that catches my attention more than the others.  it is the one on which i place all of my bets.  it is also the one that unfortunately gets cancelled, leaving me depressed and feeling somewhat abandoned.  in order for me to explain this better, i need to travel back to the 2005-2006 television season.

there are some who might remember a little show called invasion.  it was about a small town in the everglades that was hit by a hurricane.  the storm turned out to be  a cover up for the invasion of bioluminescent creatures that made hybrids out of human bodies.  i realize that this may not interest some people, but the show was actually really interesting.  i became intrigued by the characters and the constant struggle to figure out which of them were still human.  well, unfortunately there were some ratings issues and the show was suddenly cancelled after the first season.  the only problem was that the season finale was a cliffhanger.  thanks a lot abc!  now we will never know what happened.

moving on to the 2006-2007 season.  there  was an interesting show called the nine.  it was about a bank robbery that took place with nine witnesses/participants.  apparently something major happened during the robbery, and the story followed all nine characters in present day.  each character also had flashbacks of the day of the robbery that helped to clarify what went down.  once again, it was cancelled.  not only that, but it was cancelled in the middle of the season.  how can they do that?  i am never going to figure out what happened in the bank!  sometimes i wonder if the writers even knew what happened in the bank.  maybe that is why they cancelled the show.  your guess is as good as mine.

that brings us to present day (i am skipping 2007-2008 because we all know that season got messed up by the writers' strike).  this season there is a show called fringe.  it is very promising.  apparently there is a pattern of events that are happening around the world, and a special team of individuals are trying to solve the mystery.  the writing and special effects are very good.  i want to be excited about it 100%; however, i am a little uneasy about the possibility of cancellation.  i do not want to be sad again.  i guess this is an advertisement for the show.

you should watch fringe!  help me save my new show this season.  break the cycle!

for now, i am cautiously optimistic.
